How do I make changes so forum would support PNG images in BBC?

How do I make changes so forum would support PNG images in BBC?
[not smileys, but those images above smileys!]

This is basically copy of question asked
on official SMF, but due to lack of proper response, I'm asking it here as well, in hope I could get some help.

all of them as png? if you want some as gif and some as png then you need to look for a better coder then i am.

GenericControls.template.php changing this line to .png makes all the icons .png

if you want some suggested icons to replace the default as png let me know, i have some already.

unfortunately, not all of them, because then I'd loose most of existing ones.

what a bummer.
And I thought it's as easy as adding png extension just after gif

well i have all the default icons in png [not the same exact image] would sharing those help you?
