Modifications / Re: SMF Likes Plus
« on: March 14, 2013, 11:41:50 AM »
Is there a reason my post was deleted? First of all, I had a valid question - because I'm curious as to who writes the modifications for this team. Second of all, which is the more surprising and actually slightly concerning reason that my post was deleted, is because I said that there are valid issues with the way this modification loads its resources.

Somewhat astounding to me that you'd ignore someone helping and then remove their post so no one else see's the truth.

The efficiency with this modification isn't something to be ignored, it could cause some big problems on larger boards in regards to performance.

For someone experienced with SMF and or programming in general, disabling template eval isn't that much of an assistance. However for someone who doesn't, it could be fairly useful, for sure.

You'd probably want it to be slightly more robust than the two lines provided, although in reality that's all that's necessary to accomplish the task.

Correct. And I've used it many times before without any problems, but I've also encountered issues with different encodings.

@Illori
Code: [Select]
<?php
require_once('SSI.php');
updateSettings(array('disableTemplateEval' => 1));
Will indeed work on both 1.1.x and 2.0.x environments.

Yeahh...after I coded the disable template eval script I realized I could have just used updateSettings and SSI :P

Meh, actually, the most accurate way of dumping and backing up data is by using Shell. Obviously not everyone can do that, but BigDump does have some problems with large databases with foreign character sets.

There is actually a modification I heard about, that is waiting to be approved in the queue that is called "Database Backup" that provides a stronger method for backing up the database.
